Chapel Maria Ascension in Altfinstermünz

Slightly to one side, south of the gate tower stands the small chapel dedicated to the Ascension of Mary, which was built in gothicised style in 1604. The three bay structure is rounded off by a round apse, and is fitted with a wooden pavilion rook and heavy wooden ridge turrets. On the western outer wall there is a fresco depicting the crucifixion. The chapel boasts an altar by Andreas Thamasch, the most important sculptor in Tyrol of the High Baroque period.
