Daily Closures

As part of the construction of the Pulpit Gallery, daily closures will be necessary for rock removal work following the freeze-thaw cycle in the spring and for road construction as well as the stabilization of a rock outcrop near the new gallery in the fall, as follows:

  • April 13, 2026, to May 8, 2026: Daily closures Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 1:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • August 31, 2026, to October 30, 2026: Daily closures Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

ATTENTION: On Tuesday, April 21, 2026, there will be no midday reopening due to the Tour of the Alps (professional cycling race)! On this day, the closure will be in effect continuously from 7:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.!

During the daily closures, the following details must be observed:

  • The closures apply from Pfunds/Kajetan Bridge (B 184 Engadiner Straße junction) to Nauders/B 185 Martinsbrucker Straße junction; however, access to Nauders via the B 180 Reschenstraße remains unrestricted.
  • Traffic will be diverted—with the exception of vehicles with trailers longer than 6.5 meters and buses longer than 13 meters—via the B 185 Martinsbrucker Straße, the H 27 Engadiner Straße (Swiss territory), and the B 184 Engadiner Straße.
  • Vehicles that cannot use the B 185 Martinsbrucker Straße due to existing traffic restrictions must take a wide detour around the closure or wait for the designated passage time slots.
  • Outside the specified closure times, traffic may proceed through the construction zone in a single lane (traffic light control).
  • Swiss Customs has announced that there are no exceptions regarding the heavy vehicle toll for vehicles over 3.5 tons.

Traffic Control Posts

On days with heavy traffic (e.g., the Dreiländergiro on June 28, 2026, as well as other events in the summer and fall), traffic control posts will be deployed as needed.

Note: Changes may occur at any time. We appreciate your understanding and recommend allowing extra time for your journey.

Important information for cyclists:

Currently no restrictions for cyclists!

  • Outside of the daytime closures
Cyclists can use the Via Claudia Augusta as usual from Pfunds to Martina, continuing over the Norbertshöhe to Nauders and on to the Reschen Pass.
  • During daytime closures
Bicycles are prohibited on the B 185 Martinsbruckerstraße from Martinsbruck to Norbertshöhe uphill during daytime closures. Bicycle traffic is rerouted via the forest road (note: not suitable for road bikes) Altfinstermünz “Bierweg”.

There is a continuous ban on bicycles on the B 180 Reschenstraße from the Kajetansbrücke/Pfunds to the junction with the Bierweg (Altfinstermünz access road).

Construction phase 5 (April 30, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. – November 30, 2026):

  • Traffic lights: In the single-lane section of the construction site, traffic will be regulated by traffic lights. During periods of heavy traffic, longer waiting times are to be expected on the B 180 Reschenstraße due to the single-lane traffic regulation. However, the detour via the B 184 Engadiner Straße, Swiss territory, and the B 185 Martinsbrucker Straße is possible throughout, with the exception of vehicles with trailers over 6.5 m and buses over 13 m. (Note: The route is 6.5 km longer, which means an average journey time of approx. 10 minutes longer).
  • Cycling is prohibited on the B180 Reschenstraße between the Fischeralm access road and the Altfinstermünz Fortress access road. A detour is possible via the cycle path towards Altfinstermünz Fortress and via the forest road “Bierweg” (Gp. 3441, KG Nauders I). Furthermore, with the exception of a closure of the B 180 Reschenstraße, cyclists can use the B 185 Martinsbrucker Straße.
