Long live honey bees
-
Fliess
Around 1850, the “Dark bee” was the predominant honey bee in Central Europe. Today it is an endangered bee species. The Kaunertal is the last refuge for the “Braunelle”, as it is called here by the beekeepers. 40% of the remaining bee colonies in Austria can be found here in this valley! The effort to promote the “Braunelle” is meeting with success. The experienced beekeepers Meinrad Falkeis and Hubert Achenrainer like to talk about “their” Braunelle. At the “glass beehive” on Gachenblick, they provide interesting insight into the living and working space of these highly specialised insects. Small beekeeper suits are available for children, afterwards we will taste the sweet treasure of the honey bee!
