In the 13th and 14th century the palace was seat of the Counts of Ried. In 1471/2 the residence was converted into a spending hunting lodge.
In 1550 the law court was moved from Laudegg Castle to Siegismundried. After 1978 the Austrian Army bought the estate before selling it to the municipality of Ried in 1999.
